Welcome to the Handwriting Patch...A place where students learn handwriting while learning to draw

Handwriting Frustration is real

The Frustration is Real

You see the poor pencil grip.
He's just not developmentally ready.
He can't even recognize the letters - let alone form them.
He starts writing from the bottom line....
He writes from right to left.
He rushes through his work because he just. can't. wait. to. finish.

And never mind the fact that he is learning to read mostly lower case letters but expected to write in all capital letters.

But what if there were a new and different way?
Introducing....the Handwriting Patch
...A curriculum workbook where students learn handwriting while learning to draw.

Start by planting grass and seed

Start by planting grass and seed in the writing patch

Students slowly learn both capital and lower case letters...From the handwriting strokes of "seeds" and "grass" they learn to form the letters "l" and "i".

Teach a common vocabulary of stroke names

Rainbow troke in handwriting patch

This will help your writing patch flourish, making it easy to describe how to write each letter.

Practice Large Motor Multi-Sensory Movement

Practice Large Motor Multi-Sensory strokes to build muscle memory

This will build muscle memory of the handwriting strokes.

Admire your Writing Patch

Admore your writing patch!

From seeds and grass come a beautiful writing patch with sun, flowers and a rainbow!

In short?
Learning handwriting has never been so fun.

How Traditional Handwriting Programs Fail.....

  • Teach Upper Case Letters First because the strokes are "easier" to form (HOWEVER, 98% of the letters students learn to read are lower case)
  • Their letter forms are non-standard. Those tall, skinny all-caps letters simply aren’t what your kids will see on a daily basis.
  • No standard for naming the strokes:  "Pull down, curve around" - Students don't know where to start letters, or how each strokes is made
  • It’s “drill and kill”—and kids rush through (sloppily) because they’re just not interested.

What children REALLY need when learning Handwriting:

  • Lower case letters, so they can practice writing what they will actually be reading on a daily basis (Handwriting Patch ✔️)
  • Classic letter shapes that reflect how your child will be writing for the long term (Handwriting Patch ✔️)
  • Helpful arrows to show your child where to start, and where to go (Handwriting Patch ✔️)
  • A brilliant series of activities that harness your child’s creativity, while building both a vocabulary for talking about different letter strokes  (Handwriting Patch ✔️)
  • Practicing their new strokes by drawing! This keeps kids engaged and helps them focus on what they’re doing, so they get the most out of each lesson and enjoy the practice!  (Handwriting Patch ✔️)
  • Creative techniques that teach left-to-right directionality, and how to remember to put spaces between words (Handwriting Patch  ✔️)
  • Large motor movements to increase muscle memory, so your child’s new skills quickly become automatic (Handwriting Patch ✔️)
