Welcome to the Handwriting Patch...A Handwriting Curriculum where students learn handwriting by learning to draw
The Frustration is Real
You see the poor pencil grip.
He's just not developmentally ready.
He can't even recognize the letters - let alone form them.
He starts writing from the bottom line....
He writes from right to left.
He rushes through his work because he just. can't. wait. to. finish.
And never mind the fact that he is learning to read mostly lower case letters but expected to write in all capital letters.
But what if there were a new and different way?
Introducing....the Handwriting Patch
...A curriculum workbook where students learn handwriting while learning to draw.
Start by planting grass and seed
Students slowly learn both capital and lower case letters...From the handwriting strokes of "seeds" and "grass" they learn to form the letters "l" and "i".
Teach a common vocabulary of stroke names
This will help your writing patch flourish, making it easy to describe how to write each letter.
Practice Large Motor Multi-Sensory Movement
This will build muscle memory of the handwriting strokes.
Admire your Writing Patch
From seeds and grass come a beautiful writing patch with sun, flowers and a rainbow!
In short?
Learning handwriting has never been so fun.

"I purchased this handwriting curriculum and practice book for my four year old. I have been in the teaching profession for over ten years and have never seen a curriculum like this. I love that images are incorporated to teach each stroke before diving into letters or numbers. I also appreciate the well thought out ideas on how to work on fine motor skills that go beyond paper and pencil." - Jessica on Amazon
"I have been struggling to get my 5 year old to want to write. Anytime I ask him to write something he complains and doesn't want to do it. Since we started using The Handwriting Patch, he has been excited to draw in his writing patch! He even asks to do the worksheets! I highly recommend this product for beginning writers." - REM on amazon
"The Handwriting Patch is such a creative and fun way for kids to practice learning to write and draw! I find the explanations to be thorough and super engaging for little learners. I love how the authors incorporate drawing simple strokes such as a smile ( u ), grass ( I ), ear ( c ), alligator ( < ) to form the different letters, numbers, and drawings. Well thought out, clever, & fun! I would recommend this book for kids who are just starting out as well as kids who need more practice. Perfect for using at home and in the classroom." -- Amanda on amazon

How Traditional Handwriting Programs Fail.....
- Teach Upper Case Letters First because the strokes are "easier" to form (HOWEVER, 98% of the letters students learn to read are lower case)
- Their letter forms are non-standard. Those tall, skinny all-caps letters simply aren’t what your kids will see on a daily basis.
- No standard for naming the strokes: "Pull down, curve around" - Students don't know where to start letters, or how each strokes is made
- It’s “drill and kill”—and kids rush through (sloppily) because they’re just not interested.
What children REALLY need when learning Handwriting:
- Lower case letters, so they can practice writing what they will actually be reading on a daily basis (Handwriting Patch ✔️)
- Classic letter shapes that reflect how your child will be writing for the long term (Handwriting Patch ✔️)
- Helpful arrows to show your child where to start, and where to go (Handwriting Patch ✔️)
- A brilliant series of activities that harness your child’s creativity, while building both a vocabulary for talking about different letter strokes (Handwriting Patch ✔️)
- Practicing their new strokes by drawing! This keeps kids engaged and helps them focus on what they’re doing, so they get the most out of each lesson and enjoy the practice! (Handwriting Patch ✔️)
- Creative techniques that teach left-to-right directionality, and how to remember to put spaces between words (Handwriting Patch ✔️)
- Large motor movements to increase muscle memory, so your child’s new skills quickly become automatic (Handwriting Patch ✔️)

Hi, I’m Meeghan, and I want to show you how to make Handwriting fun.
Once upon a time I was a kindergarten teacher that cringed because students would come to me and write their name in ALL UPPER CASE LETTERS.
Once upon a time I worked in a preschool classroom and I winced because my administrators expected too much of little 3-5 year olds...
Once upon a time I worked as a special needs teacher and was annoyed because there was no standard language you would use to describe each handwriting stroke...
Once upon a time I was a reading teacher who was puzzled why students were taught to write in all upper case letters but I was expecting them to recognize and read mostly lower case letters.
Once upon a time I helped students who had English as a Second Language... they drew with different characters and did not recognize English letters...
I would see poor pencil grip.
I would hear cries of frustration from little people.
I would watch kids begin writing their letters from the bottom line...
I would smell the eraser rubber as my frustrated children would try to write the perfect letter.
I decided I had experienced enough handwriting with tears...
Learning handwriting does not have to be a frustrating experience.... Handwriting is an art form!
When you make handwriting practice fun, learning handwriting is fun too.... if you want to see tears of joy, AND adorable, creative hand drawn creations of each handwriting stroke - you are in the right place. Welcome!
